Errors and confusions

It's a little odd of me to say that Mahavira founded Jainism. According to the Jain texts, he was the last of twenty-four Tirthankara. I've left the reference in because, well, nearly everyone talks about him as the founder. Sincere apologies if this offends anyone.

And yes, I've already had to apologise for an apology. Ops. Sorry.

For some reason I keep on pronuncing 'Kosala' as 'Koshala', and 'Rajagriha' as 'Rajagrihi'. The first prounciation is right, I am wrong. Must do better!

I neglected to point out that some historians (Thomas, Cambridge History of India volume 1) identify Porus with Parvataka, the Himalayan king who helped Chandragupta come to power. As far as I can tell, there's nothing in favour of this theory beyond a vague similarity of name and a presumption that Porus must have been important because of how Alexander's chroniclers talk about him. It seems like spotting shadows in the clouds to me, not least because by Greek accounts and our best chronologies Porus would have been too busy being dead to help Chandragupta out much. But I should have mentioned it.

The story of the confrontation with the Nanda is really about Kautilya. There is a mention in Justin of Chandrgupta offending the Nandas and fleeing from them, but the details are from a seperate story about his teacher.

Apparently at some point I said that Shravasti was in modern day Nepal. It's just over the border in modern day India. Ops.
